What Is an Alphabetical Order Tool?

An alphabetical order tool automatically arranges words, names, phrases and other text entries according to alphabetical order. Instead of manually rearranging a long list, you can paste the entries into the tool and sort them instantly.

The YesTools Alphabetical Order Tool supports both A–Z and Z–A sorting. It can also clean lists by removing blank lines, trimming unnecessary whitespace and optionally removing duplicate entries.

Why Use the Alphabetical Order Tool?

Manually alphabetising a list can take unnecessary time, particularly when working with dozens or hundreds of entries. This tool provides a quick way to organise text while giving you control over how entries are compared and cleaned.

1

A to Z Sorting

Arrange words, names and other text in standard ascending alphabetical order.

2

Z to A Sorting

Reverse the alphabetical order to arrange entries from Z towards A.

3

Case Control

Choose whether uppercase and lowercase letters should be considered during sorting.

4

Remove Duplicates

Remove repeated entries when you need a unique alphabetically sorted list.

5

Clean Lists

Trim unnecessary whitespace and remove empty lines before sorting your entries.

6

Browser-Based

Sort your list directly in your browser without installing software or creating an account.

How to Use the Alphabetical Order Tool

You can alphabetise a list in a few simple steps. Each line in the input is treated as a separate item.

  1. Enter your list — Type or paste your words, names or other entries into the Input list field, placing one item on each line.
  2. Choose the direction — Select A to Z for normal alphabetical order or Z to A for reverse alphabetical order.
  3. Select your options — Choose whether to ignore letter case and enable any list-cleaning options you need.
  4. Sort and copy — Click Sort Alphabetically to generate the result. Use Copy Result to copy the completed list to your clipboard.

Sort a List Alphabetically Online

Sorting a list alphabetically is useful for organising names, words, keywords, products, locations, references, directories and other text-based information. An online alphabetical sorter can be particularly useful when a list is too large to arrange efficiently by hand.

The tool treats each line as an individual list item. After the entries are cleaned according to your selected options, they are compared and arranged into the requested alphabetical order. The resulting list can then be copied into another document, spreadsheet, website or application.

A to Z Alphabetical Order

A to Z is the standard ascending alphabetical order. When this option is selected, entries beginning with earlier letters are placed before entries beginning with later letters. For example, a list containing Banana, Apple and Orange becomes Apple, Banana and Orange.

Z to A Alphabetical Order

Z to A reverses the normal alphabetical sequence. Entries beginning with later letters are placed first. This can be useful when you need a reverse alphabetical list or want to quickly invert an existing alphabetical order.

Alphabetical Sorting and List Cleaning

Sorting and cleaning a list often go together. Pasted data may contain blank lines, accidental spaces or repeated entries. The tool can remove empty lines and trim leading and trailing whitespace before sorting, helping produce a cleaner final result.

When Remove duplicates is enabled, repeated entries are reduced to a single entry. The case-sensitivity setting affects how entries are compared, allowing you to decide whether differently capitalised versions of the same text should be treated as equivalent.
