Understanding Character Counts

The total character count includes every JavaScript string character represented in the entered text, including spaces and line breaks. The character-without-spaces result removes whitespace before calculating the count.

Words are counted as non-empty groups separated by whitespace. Sentences are estimated using common sentence-ending punctuation such as full stops, question marks and exclamation marks. Paragraphs are counted from non-empty blocks separated by blank lines, while lines are counted from the individual lines in the text.
