Conversion Rate Results

Current conversion rate 2.50%
Target conversion rate 3.00%
Target conversions needed 300
Additional conversions required 50
Non-conversions 9,750

What Is a Conversion Rate Calculator?

A Conversion Rate Calculator determines the percentage of visitors, sessions or other defined opportunities that complete a desired action. Conversion rate is a widely used business and digital marketing metric for evaluating how effectively traffic or opportunities produce a measurable outcome.

This calculator can be used to work out a current conversion rate, determine how many conversions are needed to reach a target percentage, calculate the additional conversions required and estimate revenue when an average conversion value is provided. It is useful for websites, landing pages, ecommerce businesses, advertising campaigns, lead generation and other conversion-focused activities.

Why Use Conversion Rate Calculator?

Understanding conversion rate makes it easier to measure performance and assess the potential impact of improving the percentage of visitors or opportunities that convert. The calculator provides several related metrics from the same set of inputs so you can evaluate both current performance and a target outcome.

1

How to Use Conversion Rate Calculator

Enter the figures for the same measurement period and conversion definition to calculate your conversion rate and related business metrics.

  1. Enter visitors or opportunities — Enter the total number of visitors, sessions or other opportunities against which conversions are being measured.
  2. Enter conversions — Enter the number of completed actions that count as conversions.
  3. Enter your target conversion rate — Set the percentage you want to achieve so the calculator can determine the required number of conversions.
  4. Enter an average conversion value and calculate — Optionally enter the average revenue from each conversion, then select Calculate Conversion Rate to see the full results.

How to Calculate Conversion Rate

The standard conversion rate formula is Conversion Rate = (Conversions ÷ Visitors or Opportunities) × 100. To calculate a conversion rate, divide the number of completed conversions by the number of visitors or other defined opportunities, then multiply the result by 100 to express it as a percentage.

For example, if a website receives 10,000 visitors and 250 of those visitors complete the desired action, the calculation is 250 ÷ 10,000 × 100, producing a conversion rate of 2.5%. The same mathematical method can be applied to other conversion opportunities, provided the numerator and denominator are defined consistently.

Using a Target Conversion Rate

A target conversion rate can be used to estimate the number of conversions required from a known number of visitors or opportunities. For example, a 3% target from 10,000 opportunities requires 300 conversions. If the current number of conversions is 250, another 50 conversions would be required to reach that target.

Understanding Conversion Rate Performance

Conversion rate should be interpreted in context rather than viewed as an isolated number. Traffic source, audience intent, device type, product or service, price, landing page, user experience and the definition of a conversion can all influence the resulting percentage. Comparing equivalent periods and using a consistent measurement definition makes conversion rate analysis more meaningful.

Conversion Rate Calculation Information

Use figures from the same measurement period when comparing conversion rates. The denominator should also remain consistent. For example, changing from unique visitors to sessions can change the calculated rate even when the number of conversions remains the same.

The calculator assumes that the number entered as conversions represents the conversion events being measured. In a metric where each opportunity can produce only one conversion, the conversion rate will normally be between 0% and 100%. If multiple conversions can be recorded for a single visitor or opportunity, a rate above 100% can occur and should be interpreted according to the measurement system being used.

Revenue estimates are based on the average conversion value entered and are not profit calculations. They do not account for acquisition costs, operating costs, taxes, refunds, discounts, cancellations, margins or attribution differences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Conversion rate is the percentage of visitors, sessions or other defined opportunities that complete a desired action. It is calculated by dividing the number of conversions by the number of visitors or opportunities and multiplying the result by 100.
The standard conversion rate formula is Conversion Rate = (Conversions ÷ Visitors or Opportunities) × 100. For example, 250 conversions from 10,000 visitors produces a conversion rate of 2.5%.
There is no single conversion rate that is good for every website or campaign. Results vary according to industry, traffic source, audience, offer, device, conversion type and other factors. Comparing your current rate with your own historical performance can provide a more useful benchmark.
Either can be appropriate depending on how the conversion metric is defined. Sessions, unique visitors and other opportunity measures can produce different results. The important point is to use a clearly defined denominator consistently when comparing conversion rates.
Under a one-conversion-per-opportunity definition, a conversion rate should not exceed 100%. However, a rate can exceed 100% when multiple conversions are counted for the same visitor or opportunity. If this happens unexpectedly, check that the numerator and denominator use matching definitions.
Click-through rate measures the percentage of people who click after seeing an advert, search result or other item, while conversion rate measures the percentage of defined visitors or opportunities that complete a desired conversion action.
