How to Calculate a Discounted Price
To calculate a discounted price, first determine the discount amount by multiplying the original price by the discount percentage and dividing by 100. The discount amount is then subtracted from the original price to produce the final sale price.
For example, if an item costs £80 and has a 25% discount, the discount amount is £20. The final discounted price is therefore £60. The same calculation can be applied to different prices and discount percentages.
Discount Percentage Formula
The discount amount can be calculated using the formula: discount amount = original price × discount percentage ÷ 100. For example, a £120 item with a 15% discount has a discount amount of £18.
Final Discounted Price Formula
The final discounted price is calculated by subtracting the discount amount from the original price. Using the £120 example with an £18 discount, the final price is £102.
Understanding Discount Calculations
A percentage discount represents a reduction from the original price. A 10% discount removes one tenth of the original price, while a 50% discount reduces the original price by half. A 100% discount results in a final price of zero.
This calculator displays monetary results to two decimal places. It performs the percentage calculation using the numerical values entered into the form and does not add sales tax, VAT, delivery charges, fees or other costs. If additional charges apply, they should be calculated separately.
