What Is an E-commerce Conversion Calculator?

An e-commerce conversion calculator helps online retailers and store owners measure how effectively website traffic turns into orders. The main calculation is conversion rate, which expresses the percentage of visitors who complete a purchase or another defined conversion action.

Enter your visitors and completed orders to calculate your conversion rate. You can also enter an average order value to estimate revenue, while the target calculator can show the number of orders or visitors associated with a particular conversion-rate goal.

Why Use the E-commerce Conversion Calculator?

This calculator provides several useful e-commerce performance measurements from a small set of traffic and sales figures. It can help you understand your current conversion rate and model potential outcomes when planning traffic or sales targets.

  1. Enter your visitors — Enter the number of website visitors during the period being analysed.
  2. Enter your orders — Enter the number of completed orders or conversions generated by those visitors.
  3. Add your average order value — Optionally enter the average value of each order if you want an estimated revenue figure.
  4. Calculate your results — Select Calculate Conversion to view your conversion rate and related metrics. You can then enter a target conversion rate to model future results.

How to Calculate E-commerce Conversion Rate

E-commerce conversion rate is calculated by dividing the number of orders or conversions by the number of visitors and multiplying the result by 100. The formula is: conversion rate = (orders ÷ visitors) × 100. For example, if an online store receives 5,000 visitors and generates 125 orders, its conversion rate is 2.5%.

Conversion rate provides a useful way to compare store performance across different periods, traffic volumes and marketing activities. It should be considered alongside other measures such as revenue, average order value, customer acquisition cost, traffic quality and profitability rather than viewed in isolation.

Conversion Rate vs Orders

Orders and conversion rate measure different aspects of e-commerce performance. Orders represent the actual number of completed purchases, while conversion rate accounts for the amount of traffic required to generate those purchases. A store can increase its order volume by attracting substantially more visitors even if its conversion rate remains unchanged, while improving conversion rate can increase orders from the same amount of traffic.

Using Conversion Rates for E-commerce Planning

A target conversion rate can be used to model potential outcomes from future traffic. For example, if a store expects 10,000 visitors and achieves a 3% conversion rate, it could generate approximately 300 orders. Conversely, if the store wants 300 orders at a 3% conversion rate, it would need approximately 10,000 visitors. These are planning calculations rather than guarantees because actual visitor behaviour can vary.

Understanding E-commerce Conversion Results

Conversion rates can vary substantially between businesses and even between different pages, products, devices, traffic sources and customer segments within the same store. A change in traffic quality, product pricing, checkout experience, availability, delivery options or audience intent can affect the percentage of visitors who purchase.

This calculator performs mathematical calculations using the figures you provide. It does not retrieve live analytics, sales, advertising or store data and does not account for factors such as refunds, cancelled orders, taxes, discounts, repeat purchases or changes in visitor quality. Revenue estimates are based solely on the entered number of orders and average order value.
