What Is a Favicon Generator?
A favicon generator creates the small website icons used by web browsers and other applications. A favicon can appear in browser tabs, bookmarks, browsing history and other locations where a website is represented by an icon.
This free favicon generator converts an existing image into multiple favicon sizes and can also create a favicon.ico file. Processing takes place locally in your browser, so the source image does not need to be uploaded to a remote server.
Why Use the Favicon Generator?
Generating multiple favicon sizes manually can require repeated image resizing and exporting. This tool provides the common sizes from a single source image and generates the files directly in your browser.
Multiple Sizes

How to Create a Favicon for a Website
A favicon should normally start with a clear, high-quality source image. Square artwork is particularly useful because favicons are displayed at very small dimensions. Logos, symbols, initials and simple graphical marks generally work better than detailed images when reduced to favicon size.
Once an image has been selected, it can be resized into several dimensions for different browser and platform requirements. Smaller icons such as 16×16 and 32×32 pixels are commonly used for browser interfaces, while larger PNG files can be useful for device icons and web application metadata.
Choosing the Right Favicon Image
Use an image with good contrast and a clearly identifiable subject. Avoid placing important details close to the edges because resizing and cropping can make small details difficult to see. A simple logo or symbol usually produces a more recognisable favicon than a complex photograph.
Why Generate Multiple Favicon Sizes?
Different browsers, devices and website features can use different icon dimensions. Providing several appropriately sized files allows your website to use an icon that is suitable for the available display area rather than relying on a single low-resolution image for every purpose.
Favicon Formats and Compatibility
PNG is a widely supported format for modern website icons and is useful when transparency is required. ICO remains a common format for a traditional favicon.ico file and can contain multiple icon resolutions in a single file.
The generator creates the requested images using your browser's built-in canvas capabilities. Image quality depends partly on the original source image. Increasing a small, low-resolution source image to a large favicon does not recreate detail that was not present in the original.
For best results, use a high-resolution square source image. If your source image is not square, the Fit entire image option preserves the complete image while adding the selected background around it. The Fill the favicon option crops the source to produce a full square icon.
