Hash Generator
Generate SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 and SHA-1 hashes from text instantly with this free browser-based hash generator.
Hash Generator
Enter text, choose a hash algorithm, and generate the corresponding hash value directly in your browser.
The text is processed locally in your browser and is not required to be sent to a server.
SHA-256 is the recommended default for most modern general-purpose hashing tasks.
What Is a Hash Generator?
A hash generator converts input data into a fixed-length hash value using a selected hash algorithm. The resulting value is commonly represented as a sequence of hexadecimal characters and acts as a compact representation of the original input.
Hash generators are useful for developers, system administrators, security professionals and anyone who needs to calculate or compare hash values. They can be used to check data integrity, verify files, test software and work with systems that use cryptographic hashes.
Why Use Hash Generator?
This free hash generator provides a quick way to calculate common cryptographic hashes without installing additional software. The calculation takes place in your web browser using built-in browser cryptography functionality.
Multiple Algorithms
Generate SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 or SHA-1 hashes from the same interface.
Instant Results
Calculate a hash immediately without uploading the input to an external hashing service.
Browser Based
The hashing operation runs directly in your browser using the Web Crypto API.
Easy to Copy
Copy the generated hash value to your clipboard with a single click.
Hexadecimal Output
Hashes are displayed in the conventional lowercase hexadecimal format for easy comparison and use.
Free to Use
Generate hashes online for free without registration, downloads or additional software.
How to Use Hash Generator
Generating a cryptographic hash takes only a few steps. Choose the algorithm that matches your requirements and enter the data you want to process.
- Enter your text — Type or paste the text you want to hash into the input field.
- Choose an algorithm — Select SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 or SHA-1 from the algorithm menu.
- Generate the hash — Select Generate Hash to calculate the cryptographic hash value.
- Copy the result — Use the Copy Hash button to copy the generated value to your clipboard.
Generate SHA-256 and Other Hashes Online
This online hash generator lets you calculate several widely used Secure Hash Algorithm values from text. SHA-256 produces a 256-bit hash, SHA-384 produces a 384-bit hash, and SHA-512 produces a 512-bit hash. SHA-1 produces a 160-bit hash and is included primarily for legacy compatibility.
A cryptographic hash is designed to produce a substantially different result when the input changes. This makes hashes useful when applications need to detect changes to data or compare a calculated value with a known reference value without directly comparing the original data.
SHA-256 Hash Generator
SHA-256 is part of the SHA-2 family and produces a 64-character hexadecimal hash. It is widely used for data integrity, digital signatures, certificates, software verification and many other technical applications. It is the default algorithm in this tool for general-purpose hashing.
SHA-512, SHA-384 and SHA-1 Hashes
SHA-512 produces a 128-character hexadecimal result, while SHA-384 produces a 96-character hexadecimal result. SHA-1 produces a 40-character hexadecimal result. Because practical collision attacks have been demonstrated against SHA-1, it should generally be avoided for new security-sensitive applications and retained only where compatibility with an existing system requires it.
Hash Formats and Security Considerations
Hash functions are one-way functions: calculating a hash from input is straightforward, while recovering the original input from a properly designed cryptographic hash is intended to be computationally impractical. However, a hash does not provide encryption and should not be treated as a method for securely concealing information.
Hash output is deterministic for a given input and algorithm. If exactly the same text is processed using the same algorithm, the resulting hash will be the same. Even a small change to the input, including a space, line break or capital letter, normally produces a completely different hash value.
This tool is intended for general hashing and verification tasks. Do not use a plain SHA-1 or SHA-2 hash as a password-storage mechanism. Passwords should be handled using dedicated password hashing or key derivation algorithms designed for that purpose.
