What Is a Limited Company Tax Calculator?
A Limited Company Tax Calculator estimates how much tax a UK limited company may pay on its taxable profits and how much money could remain after Corporation Tax. It can also estimate the personal tax payable when some or all of the remaining profit is distributed to a shareholder as dividends.
This can be useful for company directors, contractors, consultants, freelancers and business owners who want to understand the relationship between company profit, Corporation Tax, dividends and personal take-home income. By entering an estimated profit, personal income and tax region, you can quickly produce an illustrative tax breakdown.
Why Use the Limited Company Tax Calculator?
Running a limited company can involve several layers of taxation. This calculator brings the main elements together so you can compare estimated company profit with Corporation Tax, retained profit, dividends and personal dividend tax in one place.
Estimate Corporation Tax
Calculate an estimated Corporation Tax liability from your company's taxable profit.
Calculate Post-Tax Profit

Estimate Dividends
Choose the proportion of post-tax profit you want the calculator to assume is distributed as dividends.
Estimate Dividend Tax
Estimate personal dividend tax after taking other taxable income and your UK tax region into account.
Compare Tax Rates
View the estimated Corporation Tax rate and the combined effective tax rate on distributed profit.
Plan Take-Home Income
Use target take-home mode to estimate the company profit required to achieve a desired personal income.

UK Limited Company Tax and Corporation Tax Calculator
For a UK limited company, Corporation Tax is generally charged on taxable profits rather than simply on turnover. Taxable profit can differ from accounting profit because of allowable expenses, capital allowances, losses, non-deductible expenditure and other tax adjustments. The amount shown by this calculator should therefore be treated as an estimate based on the profit figure entered.
Once Corporation Tax has been deducted, the remaining profit belongs to the company. A shareholder may be able to receive some of that money as dividends, provided the company has sufficient distributable profits and the necessary company procedures are followed. Dividends are generally taxed personally rather than through Corporation Tax, creating a second potential layer of taxation when company profits are extracted.
How Corporation Tax Affects Limited Company Profits
The UK Corporation Tax system includes a small profits rate and a main rate, with marginal relief applying to qualifying companies whose taxable profits fall between the relevant thresholds. The thresholds can also be affected by the number of associated companies. This calculator provides an estimated Corporation Tax figure based on the profit and associated-company information entered.
How Dividends Affect Limited Company Take-Home Pay
Dividends are not normally treated as an ordinary deductible business expense when calculating Corporation Tax. Instead, they are generally paid from profits after Corporation Tax. The shareholder may then have a personal dividend tax liability depending on their total taxable income, available allowances and tax bands.
Your dividend tax position can therefore be different from another shareholder receiving the same dividend. Other salary or taxable income can use part of your personal tax bands, while the tax rate applied to dividends depends on the band into which the dividend falls.
Understanding Your Limited Company Tax Calculation
The calculator separates company taxation from personal taxation. Corporation Tax is estimated first from the company's taxable profit. The resulting post-tax profit is then used to estimate a dividend if you have selected a dividend distribution percentage. Any remaining profit is treated as retained company profit rather than personal income.
The personal calculation is an estimate based on dividend income and the other taxable income you enter. It does not automatically include salary optimisation, pension contributions, student loan repayments, Child Benefit considerations, capital gains, benefits in kind or other personal tax factors. It also does not calculate VAT, PAYE, employer National Insurance or Companies House filing requirements.
For companies with complex structures, multiple associated companies, substantial capital expenditure, losses or unusual tax circumstances, professional advice should be obtained before relying on a calculation for financial decisions or tax filings.
