List Comparison Tool
Compare two lists online to find matching items, items unique to each list, and differences between your data.
List Comparison Tool
Enter one item per line in each list, choose your comparison options, and compare the lists instantly.
What Is a List Comparison Tool?
A List Comparison Tool compares two sets of line-by-line text and shows which items occur in both lists and which items occur in only one of them. Instead of manually checking every entry, you can paste your data into the two input fields and let the tool identify the differences instantly.
This can be useful when checking spreadsheets, contact lists, keywords, URLs, product data, inventory records, names, reference numbers, project data and other text-based lists. The comparison is performed directly in your browser, so there is no need to upload a file or install software.
Why Use the List Comparison Tool?
Comparing lists manually can be slow and makes it easy to overlook individual entries. This tool separates the results into clear groups so you can quickly see what the two lists have in common and where they differ.
Find Matching Items
See which entries are present in both List 1 and List 2.
Find Unique Items
Identify entries that occur only in the first or second list.
Ignore Case
Optionally treat uppercase and lowercase versions of text as equivalent.
Remove Duplicate Effects
Treat repeated entries as a single item when comparing your lists.
Sort Results
Optionally organise the resulting lists alphabetically for easier review.
Browser-Based
Compare text directly in your browser without uploading your lists to a server.
How to Use the List Comparison Tool
The tool is designed for straightforward line-by-line comparisons. For the most predictable results, place one item on each line.
- Enter List 1 — Paste or type the first list into the List 1 field, with one item on each line.
- Enter List 2 — Add the second list to the List 2 field using the same line-by-line format.
- Choose your options — Select whether to trim whitespace, ignore empty lines, ignore case, ignore duplicates or sort the results.
- Compare the lists — Select Compare Lists to generate the matching items, unique items and overall differences.
Compare Two Lists Online
When two lists contain similar information, identifying their differences manually can become difficult, particularly when there are hundreds or thousands of entries. A list comparison tool provides a faster way to determine which values are shared and which values exist in only one list.
The YesTools List Comparison Tool works with ordinary text lists. You can compare names, words, numbers, URLs, keywords, identifiers, reference codes and many other types of line-by-line data. The tool produces separate results for items found in both lists, items found only in List 1 and items found only in List 2.
Compare Lists With or Without Case Sensitivity
By default, text comparisons are case-sensitive, meaning that entries such as "Example" and "example" are treated as different values. Enable the Ignore case option when capitalisation should not affect whether two entries are considered a match.
Identify Differences Between Data Sets
The unique-item results make it easier to audit and reconcile two data sets. For example, you can compare two keyword lists to identify new terms, compare two URL lists to find missing pages, or compare two sets of names to determine which entries are present in one list but not the other.
List Comparison Results and Processing
The tool treats each line as an individual list item. When Trim leading and trailing whitespace is enabled, spaces and tabs at the beginning or end of each item are removed before comparison. When Ignore empty lines is enabled, blank entries are excluded from the comparison.
When Ignore duplicate entries is enabled, repeated values within a list are considered a single item. The results retain the first occurrence of each item. Sorting can then be enabled to arrange each result set alphabetically. No files are uploaded or required, and the comparison is performed locally in your browser.
