Calculate the Amount to Charge
Enter the amount you want to have left after PayPal fees.
Estimated amount to charge
This is the gross amount that should be charged so that the selected PayPal fee leaves approximately your target amount.
The reverse calculation uses the selected percentage and fixed fee and assumes the fee is charged against the full transaction amount. It is an estimate and does not account for additional PayPal charges that may apply outside the selected fee structure.
What Is a PayPal Fee Calculator?
A PayPal Fee Calculator is an online tool that estimates how much PayPal will charge when you receive a commercial payment. Instead of manually calculating a percentage and fixed transaction charge, you can enter a payment amount and immediately see the estimated PayPal fee and the amount remaining after the fee has been deducted.
This calculator is useful for online sellers, freelancers, businesses, consultants, service providers and anyone who accepts commercial payments through PayPal. It can also work backwards from a target amount, showing how much you may need to charge a customer if you want to receive a specific amount after PayPal fees.
Why Use the PayPal Fee Calculator?
PayPal transaction fees can consist of a percentage-based charge and a fixed fee, while international transactions and particular payment methods can have additional rates. This calculator brings those components together so you can estimate the cost of receiving a payment quickly.
UK PayPal Fee Presets
Use built-in presets based on PayPal's published UK commercial transaction rates, including the standard domestic rate.
International Fees
Estimate additional percentage charges for commercial payments received from different international markets.
Custom Rates
Enter your own percentage and fixed fee when your PayPal agreement or payment method uses a different pricing structure.
Net Payment
See how much remains after the estimated PayPal fee has been deducted from the gross transaction amount.
Reverse Calculation
Calculate the approximate amount you need to charge to receive a chosen target amount after PayPal fees.
Currency Support
Choose from common currencies and use the appropriate PayPal fixed fee where a published fixed fee is available.
How to Use the PayPal Fee Calculator
Use the calculator to estimate the cost of receiving a PayPal commercial payment in just a few steps.
- Enter the transaction amount — Enter the gross amount the customer is expected to pay.
- Select your currency and transaction type — Choose the currency received and the PayPal fee structure that most closely matches the payment.
- Review the calculated fee — The calculator separates the percentage fee, fixed fee and optional currency conversion charge.
- Use the reverse calculation when needed — Enter the amount you want to receive to estimate the gross amount you need to charge.
How PayPal Fees Are Calculated
PayPal commercial transaction fees are commonly calculated using a percentage of the payment plus a fixed fee based on the currency received. For example, under the current PayPal UK standard commercial transaction rate, a domestic payment uses a 2.90% percentage fee plus a £0.30 fixed fee. A £100 payment would therefore have an estimated fee of £3.20 before any additional applicable charges.
International transactions can have an additional percentage-based charge depending on the sender's market. PayPal also publishes separate rates for certain payment types, including card-funded payments from users without a PayPal account and QR Code transactions. Because the applicable rate depends on the circumstances of the transaction, selecting the closest matching preset is important when using the calculator.
PayPal Percentage and Fixed Fees
The percentage component is calculated against the applicable transaction amount. The fixed component is then added to that percentage-based charge. In GBP, PayPal's current UK merchant fee schedule lists a £0.30 fixed fee for standard commercial transactions. Other currencies have their own fixed fee amounts.
How Much Should You Charge to Cover PayPal Fees?
If you need to receive a specific amount after PayPal fees, simply calculating the fee on your target amount is not sufficient because the fee itself increases as the amount charged increases. The reverse calculator accounts for this by solving for the gross transaction amount needed to leave the selected target amount after the percentage and fixed fees.
Important Information About PayPal Fee Estimates
The default fee presets on this page are based on PayPal's published UK merchant fee information available at the time this tool was created. PayPal can change its pricing, introduce new pricing structures or apply different rates according to the account, transaction, payment method, currency and market involved. Always check PayPal's current merchant fee schedule before relying on a calculation for business pricing, invoicing or accounting.
International payments may involve additional percentage-based charges. Currency conversion can also introduce costs that are separate from the standard commercial transaction fee. The optional conversion field allows you to model an additional percentage, but it does not attempt to reproduce every possible PayPal exchange-rate or conversion scenario.
Some PayPal products and payment methods have separate pricing. The calculator therefore provides editable percentage and fixed-fee fields rather than assuming that every PayPal payment uses the standard domestic commercial transaction rate. This makes the calculator useful when you already know the rate applicable to your account.
For current UK merchant pricing and detailed terms, consult PayPal's official merchant fee information before making final commercial decisions.
