What Is a Random List Generator?

A random list generator is a tool that rearranges the items in a list into a random order. Instead of manually shuffling names, numbers, choices or other entries, you can provide the list and let the generator create a randomised version instantly.

The tool can also create a smaller random selection from a larger list. This makes it useful for choosing participants, assigning tasks, selecting items, creating random groups or simply putting a list into an unpredictable order.

    Why Use Random List Generator?

YesTools Random List Generator provides a quick way to shuffle or randomly select items from a custom list without requiring software, registration or manual rearrangement.

Choose fewer items than your full list to create a smaller random selection.

    3

    Custom Lists

Use names, numbers, words, tasks, options or almost any other text-based entries.

    4

    Repeat Control

Choose whether an item can appear more than once when generating a random selection.

    5

    Easy Copying

Copy the complete generated list directly to your clipboard for use elsewhere.

    6

    Browser-Based

Your entries are processed in your browser without requiring an upload to a server.

How to Use Random List Generator

You can randomise a complete list or create a smaller random selection in just a few steps.

    1. Enter your list — Add one item on each line in the input box.
    2. Choose the output size — Enter the number of items you want in the generated list.
    3. Choose repeat behaviour — Leave repeated items disabled for a selection without replacement, or enable the option when repeated results are required.
    4. Generate the list — Click Generate Random List to create your randomised output, then use Copy List if you want to copy the result.

    Randomise a List Online

Randomising a list is useful whenever the original order of items should not determine what happens next. A randomised list can be used for classroom activities, team assignments, task allocation, games, study exercises, content planning and everyday decisions.

For example, you can enter a list of names and generate a random order for assigning turns, or enter a list of tasks and use the resulting order as a randomly generated schedule. You can also request fewer results than the number of entries when you only need a random selection.

    Random Name and Item Lists

To create a random name list, enter each person's name on a separate line. The generator will rearrange the entries into a new random order. The same approach works for products, locations, tasks, numbers, activities and other lists.

    Random Selection From a List

A random list can contain either every entry or a selected number of entries. When repeated items are disabled, each list position can only be selected once during a generation. This makes the tool suitable for drawing several distinct entries from a larger list.

    Random List Generator Information

Blank lines are ignored when your list is processed. Entries are trimmed at the beginning and end, while the text inside each entry is preserved. Duplicate entries are not automatically removed, so two identical lines are treated as two separate list items.

The generator uses browser-based random number generation when available. The generated order is intended for ordinary randomisation and selection tasks and should not be treated as a certified random process for regulated lotteries, gambling or other applications that require independently audited randomness.

Yes. Enter one name per line to randomly order a group of people or select a smaller number of names from the list.
No. Duplicate entries are treated as separate items and remain separate when the list is randomised. If the same item appears more than once in your input, each occurrence has its own opportunity to be selected.
