What Is a Random Order Generator?

A random order generator takes a list of items and rearranges them into a new random sequence. Instead of manually deciding which item should come first, you can enter your list and let the generator create a shuffled order instantly.

This can be useful for organising activities, choosing presentation sequences, assigning the order of tasks, arranging study questions, deciding who goes first, creating competition schedules and many other situations where you need a neutral starting order.

Why Use Random Order Generator?

The tool provides a quick way to randomise a complete list without manually rearranging entries. It works directly in your browser and provides results that can be copied or saved as a text file.

1

6

Download Results

Save the generated random order as a plain TXT file for later use.

How to Use Random Order Generator

Generating a random order only takes a few seconds. Your original list is not changed, so you can generate another order whenever you need a fresh result.

  1. Enter your list — Add the items you want to randomise, preferably one item per line.
  2. Choose the input format — Leave comma separation enabled if your list contains comma-separated entries.
  3. Generate the order — Select Generate Random Order to shuffle all of the supplied entries.
  4. Copy or download — Copy the generated order to your clipboard or download it as a TXT file.

Generate a Random Order Online

A random order generator is useful whenever a list needs to be placed into an unbiased or unpredictable sequence. Rather than relying on the order in which names or tasks were entered, the generator shuffles the entries and presents them in a new sequence. You can use it as a random list shuffler, list randomizer or simple randomisation tool.

For example, teachers can randomise the order of students answering questions, teams can determine a presentation sequence, organisers can decide activity order, and individuals can create a random sequence of personal tasks. The same approach can be used for lists of names, numbers, topics, questions, destinations and other text entries.

Shuffle a List Into a Random Sequence

The generator is designed to shuffle the entire list rather than select only a few entries. Every supplied item remains in the output, but its position can change. Generate the list again to produce another random ordering.

Randomise Names, Tasks and Activities

You can use the tool with almost any ordinary text list. Common examples include randomising participant names, deciding the order of presentations, arranging project tasks, ordering games or activities, selecting a sequence for study exercises and creating a starting order for group decisions.

How Random Order Generation Works

The generator uses a list-shuffling process based on the Fisher-Yates shuffle. The algorithm repeatedly selects an entry from the remaining unshuffled portion and exchanges it with the current position. This produces a complete permutation of the supplied entries without intentionally removing or duplicating them.

The tool uses the browser's cryptographically secure random number generator when it is available, with a standard random fallback for browsers that do not provide it. Randomisation happens locally in your browser, and the generated result is not sent to a YesTools server. Duplicate entries already present in your input are preserved as separate entries.
