What Is a Tax Bracket Calculator?
A Tax Bracket Calculator shows how your taxable income is divided between the different UK Income Tax bands. Rather than assuming that your entire salary is taxed at one rate, the calculator applies the relevant rate to each portion of taxable income that falls within a particular band.
This free UK Tax Bracket Calculator is designed for the 2026/27 tax year and allows you to select England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland. It can help employees, contractors and other taxpayers understand where their income falls within the UK tax system and how the different Income Tax rates apply.
Why Use a Tax Bracket Calculator?
Understanding your tax brackets can make it easier to estimate your Income Tax liability and understand the effect of earning more or less income. This calculator provides a simple breakdown without requiring a complicated tax calculation.

UK Income Tax Brackets for 2026/27
The UK Income Tax system is progressive, meaning different portions of taxable income can be charged at different rates. For 2026/27, the standard Personal Allowance is £12,570. For taxpayers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, taxable income is generally subject to a 20% basic rate, a 40% higher rate and a 45% additional rate once the relevant thresholds are reached.
Scotland has its own Income Tax bands and rates. For 2026/27, Scottish taxable income can be subject to the starter rate of 19%, basic rate of 20%, intermediate rate of 21%, higher rate of 42%, advanced rate of 45% and top rate of 48%.
How UK Tax Brackets Work
Being in a higher tax bracket does not mean that all of your income is suddenly taxed at the higher rate. Instead, only the portion of taxable income that falls inside that bracket is taxed at its corresponding rate. For example, a taxpayer whose income extends into the higher-rate band still pays the basic rate on the portion that falls within the basic-rate band.
Personal Allowance and the £100,000 Threshold
Most taxpayers receive a standard Personal Allowance of £12,570. However, the allowance is reduced by £1 for every £2 of adjusted net income above £100,000. This means the allowance can be gradually reduced for higher earners and reaches zero when adjusted net income is £125,140 or more.
Tax Bracket Calculator Limitations
This calculator provides an estimate based on annual income, the standard 2026/27 Personal Allowance and the published Income Tax bands for the selected UK region. It is intended as a general guide rather than a calculation of your exact PAYE liability.
The calculation does not include National Insurance, student loan repayments, pension contributions or salary sacrifice, benefits in kind, dividend or savings taxation, Marriage Allowance, Blind Person's Allowance, tax reliefs, multiple employment arrangements, special tax codes or other individual circumstances. Your actual payroll deductions may therefore differ from the result shown.
