TDEE Calculator
Estimate your total daily energy expenditure and daily calorie needs using your age, sex, height, weight and usual activity level.
TDEE Calculator
Enter your details, select your usual activity level and calculate an estimated number of calories your body uses each day.
What Is a TDEE Calculator?
A TDEE calculator estimates your total daily energy expenditure, which is the approximate amount of energy your body uses over the course of a typical day. TDEE includes the energy required to maintain basic physiological functions at rest as well as energy associated with physical activity and other normal daily processes.
This free TDEE calculator uses your age, sex, height, weight and usual activity level to produce an estimated daily calorie requirement. It supports both metric and imperial measurements, making it useful when comparing calorie needs or establishing a starting point for understanding your energy requirements.
Why Use the TDEE Calculator?
Calculating TDEE can provide a useful starting estimate of your daily energy expenditure without requiring specialist equipment or a complicated calculation. The result can help you understand how activity changes your estimated calorie requirements.
Free to Use
Calculate your estimated TDEE online without creating an account, paying a fee or installing software.
Metric and Imperial
Choose kilograms and centimetres or pounds and feet and inches to enter your measurements in the units you already use.
Mifflin–St Jeor
The calculator uses the Mifflin–St Jeor equation to estimate basal metabolic rate before applying an activity multiplier.
Activity Adjusted
Select from five standard activity levels to estimate how your usual physical activity affects daily calorie expenditure.
Instant Results
The calculation is performed directly in your browser and displays the result immediately after you submit your information.
Private Calculation
The calculator operates entirely within the page. Your measurements are not submitted to a server by the TDEE calculator itself.
How to Use the TDEE Calculator
Enter your personal measurements and choose the activity level that best describes your normal routine. The calculator will then estimate your BMR and TDEE.
- Choose your unit system — Select Metric for kilograms and centimetres or Imperial for pounds and feet and inches.
- Enter your personal information — Select your sex and enter your age, weight and height.
- Select your activity level — Choose the activity description that most closely matches your usual physical activity.
- Calculate your TDEE — Select Calculate TDEE to display your estimated daily energy expenditure and the corresponding calorie estimates for each activity level.
How TDEE Is Calculated
TDEE is commonly estimated by first calculating basal metabolic rate and then adjusting that figure according to physical activity. Basal metabolic rate represents the estimated amount of energy required to support essential physiological functions while at rest. TDEE extends that estimate to account for a person's typical daily activity.
This calculator uses the Mifflin–St Jeor equation to estimate BMR. For men, the equation is 10 × weight in kilograms + 6.25 × height in centimetres − 5 × age + 5. For women, the final constant is −161 rather than +5. The resulting BMR estimate is then multiplied by a standard activity factor to produce the selected TDEE estimate.
TDEE Activity Multipliers
The calculator provides five commonly used activity factors: 1.20 for sedentary, 1.375 for lightly active, 1.55 for moderately active, 1.725 for very active and 1.90 for extra active. These factors are useful for producing a practical estimate, but they cannot capture every individual's actual movement, exercise, occupation or metabolic characteristics.
TDEE and Daily Calorie Needs
TDEE is often used as a reference point when considering daily calorie intake. Someone whose average calorie intake is around their estimated TDEE may be expected to maintain a relatively stable body weight over time, although real-world results vary. Changes in body weight are influenced by actual energy intake, expenditure and longer-term individual factors, so a calculator result should be treated as a starting estimate rather than a guaranteed target.
TDEE Calculator Accuracy and Limitations
A TDEE calculator cannot directly measure your metabolism or daily energy expenditure. The result is an estimate based on population-level equations and standard activity multipliers. Actual calorie expenditure can differ because of body composition, muscle mass, age, genetics, exercise intensity, occupation, movement throughout the day and other individual factors.
For this reason, a calculated TDEE should not be interpreted as an exact calorie requirement. If you are using calorie estimates for a specific health, nutrition, weight-management or medical purpose, consider discussing your individual requirements with a qualified healthcare professional or registered dietitian. This calculator is intended for general informational purposes and is not a diagnostic or medical tool.
