Website Uptime Calculator
Enter a total monitoring period and the amount of downtime recorded to calculate uptime, downtime and allowable downtime for common service availability targets.
What Is a Website Uptime Calculator?
A Website Uptime Calculator determines the percentage of time a website or online service was available during a specified measurement period. By comparing the total period with recorded downtime, it calculates both uptime and downtime percentages.
The calculator is useful for website owners, developers, hosting customers, system administrators, SEO professionals and businesses that monitor website availability. It can also help when reviewing service availability against common uptime targets such as 99%, 99.9%, 99.99% and 99.999%.
Why Use Website Uptime Calculator?
This calculator provides a straightforward way to convert recorded downtime into an uptime percentage and understand how much downtime corresponds to common availability targets.
Calculate Uptime
Calculate the percentage of a measurement period during which a website was available.
Calculate Downtime
See the percentage of the measurement period represented by the recorded downtime.
Check SLA Targets
See the amount of downtime permitted by several common uptime targets.
Use Any Period
Calculate uptime over a custom measurement period rather than being limited to a fixed month or year.
View Available Time
See how much of the specified measurement period remained available after downtime.
Free Browser Calculation
Perform the calculation directly in your browser without an account, subscription or external software.

How to Calculate Website Uptime
Website uptime is calculated by comparing the amount of available time with the total measurement period. The basic formula is: Uptime Percentage = ((Total Time − Downtime) ÷ Total Time) × 100.
For example, if a website is monitored for 30 days and experiences 45 minutes of downtime, the total period contains 43,200 minutes. After subtracting 45 minutes of downtime, 43,155 minutes remain available. The resulting uptime is approximately 99.90%.
Uptime Percentage Formula
The uptime percentage expresses availability as a value between 0% and 100% when downtime falls within the measurement period. A website with no recorded downtime has 100% uptime for that measurement period. As downtime increases, the uptime percentage decreases.
Uptime and SLA Targets
Service-level agreements and hosting providers may use uptime targets to describe expected availability. Common targets include 99%, 99.9%, 99.99% and 99.999%. The actual amount of downtime permitted by each target depends on the length of the measurement period. A target of 99.9% therefore permits more downtime over a year than it does over a single day.
Understanding Website Uptime Results
Uptime is a measurement of availability during a defined period. It should always be considered alongside the monitoring method and the rules used to determine whether a service is available. Different monitoring systems may use different intervals, locations, response requirements and exclusions.
For example, an uptime monitoring service may check a website at regular intervals and record an outage when a particular response condition is met. A hosting provider's SLA may define downtime differently and may exclude scheduled maintenance, circumstances outside the provider's control or particular types of service interruption. The percentage produced by this calculator should therefore be compared with an SLA only when the measurement definitions are compatible.
