What Is a Working Days Calculator?

A Working Days Calculator determines the number of weekdays between two calendar dates. Unlike a simple date difference calculation, it excludes Saturdays and Sundays so that the result represents the number of standard Monday-to-Friday working days in the selected period.

This type of calculation can be useful when planning projects, estimating delivery schedules, calculating employment periods, checking deadlines, preparing invoices, measuring business periods or determining how many standard working days remain between two dates.

Why Use Working Days Calculator?

The YesTools Working Days Calculator performs the calendar calculation directly in your browser and provides a clear breakdown of the working days, calendar days and weekends in the selected date range.

1

Excludes Weekends

Saturdays and Sundays are automatically excluded from the standard working-day result.

2

Inclusive Counting

How to Use the Working Days Calculator

Calculating working days takes only a few steps. Select the two dates you want to compare, choose the appropriate counting method and review the result.

  1. Choose the start date — Select the first date in the date range using the date picker.
  2. Choose the end date — Select the second date that marks the other end of the period.
  3. Choose inclusive counting — Enable the option if you want both dates included when they are weekdays.
  4. Calculate the result — Select Calculate Working Days to see the working days, calendar days, excluded weekends and date direction.

How to Calculate Working Days Between Two Dates

To calculate working days between two dates, the calendar period must be examined to determine which dates fall on weekdays and which fall on weekends. For a standard Monday-to-Friday working week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are working days, while Saturday and Sunday are excluded.

For example, a date range covering Monday through Friday contains five working days. A range that extends over a weekend contains fewer working days than its total calendar-day count because Saturday and Sunday are not included in the standard working-week calculation.

Working Days vs Calendar Days

Calendar days include every date in a period, including Saturdays and Sundays. Working days are limited to weekdays under the standard Monday-to-Friday convention. The two figures can therefore be different even when they describe the same date range.

Inclusive and Exclusive Date Counting

Whether the start and end dates are included can change the result. With inclusive counting enabled, a start date or end date is counted when it falls on a weekday. This is useful when the dates represent the actual first and last working days of a period. When inclusive counting is disabled, the calculation considers the working days between the dates without counting the boundary dates themselves.

Understanding Working Days Results

The Working Days Calculator uses actual calendar dates rather than estimating the result by dividing a total number of days by an average week length. Each date in the selected range is evaluated according to its day of the week, allowing weekends to be excluded accurately.

The standard result does not automatically account for bank holidays, public holidays, company shutdowns, annual leave or other organisation-specific non-working days. If your working calendar excludes additional dates, those dates should be considered separately when applying the result to a specific workplace, contract or deadline.
